About Devon Area

About Seaton

From the quaint fishing village of Beer to the thriving Cathedral City of Exeter, South East Devon offers the visitor spectacular coastal scenery, beautiful countryside and a generally mild climate.

Popular local attractions include Pecorama and Caves (offering fascinating insights into local smuggling history) at Beer, Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary (approx 10km) and Crealy Adventure Park (approx 29km)

Seaton marks the beginning of the “Jurassic Coast”, a World Heritage Site, which includes Lyme Regis, where Mary Anning made many of her important fossil discoveries, and Charmouth, (just 6 miles and 8 miles respectively along the coast).

Spectacular fossils have been found in nearby cliffs, including a Plesiosaurus and Ichthyosaurus which are now on display in local fossil exhibitions.

Seaton is a thriving little seaside town in the Axe Valley which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.  It is positioned between the picturesque cliffs of Axmouth Harbour and the ancient fishing village of Beer, overlooking the beautiful Lyme Bay.

Seaton offers a selection of exceptionally friendly shops, pubs and restaurants, a broad stretch of beach and the beautiful harbour at the mouth of the River Axe.

Seaton is ideally placed for visitors who wish to enjoy the dramatic scenery of the Axe Valley and to visit other small resorts such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. There are numerous coastal and countryside walks; the picturesque fishing village of Beer is a steep but spectacular 4k coastal walk..

Seaton is home to the famous narrow gauge Heritage Tramway which has been featured on wildlife T.V. programmes, as it travels along the banks of the scenic River Axe through the bird sanctuary to the villages of Colyford and Colyton.  The bird sanctuary also has several hides where visitors can enjoy close observation of many species such as Sandpipers, White Egrets, Oyster Catchers, Curlews and Herons.

Seaton Hosts the internationally famous Grizzly run every March and carnival week is held in early September. Live music can be found at nearby Eyre Court on Sundays at 4pm, The Smugglers on Thursday (jam night) and Friday and Winston's Bar on Friday/Saturday.
